Review Process
FL Gulf News reviews correction requests based on the available record, source material, public documents, court filings, official statements, interviews, and other relevant evidence.
When appropriate, FL Gulf News may contact the person submitting the request, the author of the article, article subjects, sources, agencies, attorneys, or other relevant parties to clarify the issue.
Submitting a correction request does not guarantee that a correction, removal, retraction, or update will be made. FL Gulf News retains editorial discretion over corrections, clarifications, updates, editor’s notes, and article revisions.
Corrections, Clarifications, and Updates
If FL Gulf News determines that a material factual error was published, the article may be corrected and may include a correction notice, clarification, update note, or editor’s note.
Minor typographical errors, formatting issues, broken links, grammar corrections, style changes, headline refinements, image adjustments, or non-material edits may be corrected without a formal notice.
If new information becomes available after publication, FL Gulf News may update an article to reflect later developments. Updates may be noted when they materially change or expand the story.
Opinion, Commentary, and Analysis
FL Gulf News publishes news, analysis, opinion, commentary, satire, and investigative journalism. Opinion and commentary may include argument, criticism, rhetorical framing, interpretation, humor, and point-of-view journalism.
Disagreement with an opinion, interpretation, criticism, editorial judgment, characterization, or commentary does not necessarily constitute a factual error. However, factual claims within opinion or commentary may be reviewed for correction where appropriate.
Requests for Removal
FL Gulf News generally does not remove accurate, newsworthy, lawfully obtained, or publicly significant content simply because a person or organization objects to coverage, criticism, public reporting, or commentary.
Requests for removal will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, including where there are legal obligations, safety concerns, privacy issues, verified factual errors, or other compelling circumstances.
